It was toward the end of the year around september when i picked up playing the guitar and getting more involved in music. I had many influences before such as my dad and my uncles who would always have jamming sessions whenever they got together. Of course all the equipment was free to use and most of all free of charge. This so because one of my unlces is an all rounded musician and plays in a band that performs at high class hotels with hits from ranging from the 60's to the 80's. Well anyway, despite their weekly jam sessions it did not influence me yet, at that point in time. Another influence was the typical advertisements and shows that we all watch on televison or see on posters. Just imagine, being on stage & playing music for a whole crowd of people who are there JUST FOR YOU. Who would not want that?
To be popular, to be known by many. The typical life of a rockstar which is all built around an image of false fact.
My main influence on music that really got me going was watching a band from the same secondary school perform during a teacher's day concert. It was just so captivating for me. Despite the horrid singing, the way they enjoyed themselves and played jsut because they loved performing was what got me going. Not long after did i remember that i saw an old guitar in the store of my home. So with so much enthusiam, i dove right in and started searching fr the guitar. It did not take long. As soon as i got it out i brought it the music shop to get it re-strung.
I didn't know NUTS about playing a guitar. I consulted a few friends who knew how to play. They taught me a few things which has led to my quick understanding and fast progress in music. Its been almost 2 years since i started and i am now able to play the guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and sing as well :) which is a bonus. A few friends have nicknamed me the " One-Man Band " which i do not find amusing at all. But it is kind of true. *laughs*
My dad is a little supportive of my music and has taught me a thing or two about it. Especially in terms of the creative side behind music and for some reason, discipline as well. My mum is very supportive. She does not have any experince on music but she does know the quality of music when she hears it. Of course the both of them agree that i should not get too involved in music as music in Singapore cannot make it in the international industry. & it would be a watse of time. My mum says to enjoy it while it lasts but to also keep my priorites clear.
